Intermoda secures contract to provide data insight and intelligence services for Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as it brings bus services back into public control
Intermoda, a leading provider of public transport performance intelligence and analytics capability, is pleased to announce it has secured its first UK contract with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) to supply its Bus Franchise Contract Management System and Performance Payment Calculator over a five-year term. This milestone marks an important step in Intermoda’s international expansion and reflects growing demand for proven, data-driven approaches to managing franchised public transport networks.
LCRCA is currently moving forward with the process of franchising its bus network. By the end of 2027, the Combined Authority, rather than private operators, will set routes, fares and timetables across the whole City Region. This follows the decision in 2023 to bring the network under public control.
Intermoda will support this transition by providing advanced data intelligence capabilities to underpin contract management, performance monitoring and continuous network improvement.
Intermoda’s platform has been developed over more than 20 years, supporting complex franchised and contracted bus environments across Australia and New Zealand. This experience has helped authorities and operators work from a shared, trusted view of performance, strengthening relationships, improving On-Time Running (OTR), enhancing service delivery, and ensuring value for money.
By leveraging this proven expertise, Intermoda will support LCRCA in establishing best-practice frameworks and accelerating the benefits of bus franchising.
Simon Finnie, Head of Network Performance at Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, said:
"The Combined Authority has appointed Intermoda to provide data and performance insights for the Liverpool City Region bus network. This represents a key step forward as we progress towards franchising. We will work with Intermoda to ensure that the data gathered will help deliver the transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement required for the network."
John Langford-Ely, CEO of Intermoda, said:
"This is a significant milestone for Intermoda as we enter the UK market. Our success reflects the depth of experience we’ve built over two decades supporting franchised bus systems in Australia and New Zealand. We’re excited to partner with LCRCA as they implement their vision for bus franchising, and to help fast-track the delivery of its benefits through robust, data-driven contract management."
Intermoda is well positioned to support the UK market as authorities continue to modernise contract management and maximise the value of franchised networks.
